Music has a unique way of drawing us closer to God, and it’s been a privilege to witness how worship transforms hearts, especially within our band. In this special interview, we spoke with one of our singers, Melissa Anduiza, about her faith journey, worship experiences, and advice for those seeking a deeper connection with Christ. We pray her insights inspire and encourage you in your walk with God!
Do you remember the first time you led worship? What was it like?
"Yes, it was at a Young Adults Praise & Worship Night. I remember feeling really nervous because there were a lot of people, and they weren’t singing because they didn’t know the songs lol. I really wanted to help people connect, but it was challenging. But like anything, it takes experience and doing it over and over again. The most important thing is allowing the Holy Spirit to take over, and even though it can be nerve-wracking, we have to trust that God is working.”
Was there a pivotal moment in your faith journey that brought you closer to Christ?
“It was a particular confession I made through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. I was just overwhelmed with God’s mercy for me. I was feeling so much guilt in my sin, trapped, but after receiving the sacrament, I felt free, truly experiencing God’s unconditional love for me and how quick He is to forgive us. I remember how kind the priest was. There’s no sin that you can commit that God won’t forgive if you truly come to Him in sorrow wanting to reconcile with Him.
What’s a Bible verse or passage that has shaped your walk with God?
"It’s a common one, Psalm 23, ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.’ I’ve learned that God is enough for me. It shook me because I was always looking for other things to fill me, including a relationship, and God showed me that He’s enough for me. He’s always going to give me what I need vs. what I want. His will is always better than my own, so I desire Him. He’s all I need.”
What’s your favorite part of leading worship, and what’s the most challenging part?
“My favorite part of leading worship is being used by God to help others encounter Him. When I’m singing it’s so enjoyable because I can literally feel the anointing of the Holy Spirt and divine graces overflowing through my soul out into my voice. It’s the power of the Holy Spirit, it takes over. It’s challenging when you invite people and they don’t come lol. You just want them to experience the amazing love of Jesus and it’s frustrating when life gets in the way. But it’s something I have to let go of and trust that whoever’s meant to be there will be there. It’s a good lesson for me that it’s not about the numbers, but who God wanted to be there.”
What advice would you give to young women trying to grow in their faith and step into leadership roles?
“Always ask the Holy Spirit to lead you for guidance and direction. Be deeply rooted in prayer, whatever prayer looks like for you. Whether that be in adoration with Him, through worship music, or with scripture. Never make any decision without discerning with our Lord and our Blessed Mother. Be not afraid. Know that you’re a daughter of God, a precious jewel in His site, who upholds the highest dignity. So walk with confidence and stay humble because everything that you do should glorify God. If you’re glorifying God, you can’t go wrong.”
When you’re not singing or practicing, what are some things you love to do?
”I love cooking, going to the movies, going out to dinner, taking walks, and shopping! I also like going on vacation with my family and getting my nails done, I’m a girly girl lol. I also like to crochet!”
Is there a prayer or message you’d like to share with our readers today?
“Yes, this is a prayer that I pray every day. It’s the surrender prayer - “O Jesus I surrender myself to You, take care of everything.”
Leading worship is more than just music. It’s about opening hearts to encounter the presence of God. Melissa’s story reminds us of the beauty in surrendering to His will and trusting the Holy Spirit to guide us. Whether you're new to worship or seeking inspiration, remember: God meets us where we are, and through Him, all things are possible!
