Why does beginning with prayer before leading worship matter? For us, it shifts our focus to God’s presence and prepares us to re-offer our hearts to Him. We have a tradition of praying together before doing anything as a band, whether sharing a meal, practicing, holding meetings, or leading worship. This simple act of gratitude, praise, and lifting our intentions to God strengthens our bond with Him and each other. We hope sharing our worship preparation process inspires you in your walk with Christ!

Personal Preparation Before Worship

In the days leading up to an event, we include the event in our daily prayers, spending time in Eucharistic Adoration and praying the Rosary. This personal preparation continues on the event day. After finishing equipment setup, soundcheck, warm-ups, and run-throughs, we enter into a group prayer.

Our Group Prayer

We gather in a circle, join hands, and one of us leads the prayer.

Gratitude: We start by thanking God for the blessing of worship, for gathering us together, and for all He has done in our lives, families, church, and community. Gratitude shifts our focus to joy and humility, reminding us that all we have comes from Him.

Surrender: Then we say a prayer of surrender. We ask Him to take control and use us to lead others to Him. Letting go of all expectations, we ask that everything goes according to His will. And we have to tell you, it’s a struggle sometimes because it’s in our nature to want everything to go perfectly smooth. But we remember God doesn’t call us to be perfect out there. Yes, He asks us to prepare and He expects our best, but ultimately, He wants us out there loving others as He has loved us.

Intercession of Mary: We then ask for the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary and pray a Hail Mary together. Mary is our Queen, whom we honor and love deeply. She always leads us to her Son, and having her present with us during worship is very important. Her radiance, beauty, motherly love, and grace overflow into our hearts, filling us with peace and giving us the courage we need to lead others into worship despite our own flaws, shortcomings, and broken humanity. Mary represents perfect obedience and surrender, as she lived this out in her life, saying yes out of faith and fulfilling God’s plan to bring Jesus into this world. We can never forget our Blessed Mother!

The Power of Group Prayer

Our prayer is constantly changing with every circumstance we experience in life. However, these three "categories" of prayer, are beautiful ways to connect with God and glorifying Him.

Always remember the power of prayer, especially in a group setting. Jesus says, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I with them" (Matthew 18:20). When we pray together, Jesus is always there. Never doubt that. Be free, be honest, and be open to Him. He is our best friend, our Lord, and He loves us all more than we can ever desire or imagine! To pray to Him is to talk to Him. Be yourself, be honest, and it will strengthen your relationship with Him. Lean on your family and brothers and sisters in Christ to pray as a group. They will strengthen you and you will strengthen them.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17).
